Buzz and the team raise £42k

After a 35-mile walk across Sussex to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the BHAFC Foundation, Buzz’s Charity Walk has raised more than £42,000 to support the charity.

Kitmen Buzz and Harry and social media admin Matt set off from Rustington last Wednesday (25 June) and pushed the kit skip all the way to the finish line at the Amex Stadium on Friday evening.

Along the way they handed out kit and equipment to primary schools, visited local landmarks, and joined an Albion Memories dementia group in Brighton.

They were joined by a host of Albion players, staff, and famous fans on their walk. DJ Fatboy Slim and Masterchef winner Steven Edwards kicked off the walk in Rustington, while Jason Steele arrived on the second day to visit young players at Cardinal Newman School in Hove.

Fabian Hurzeler joined the walk in Brighton, as did Lewis Dunk and former Albion midfielder Billy Gilmour, with all three visiting the Foundation’s Community Hub on the walk’s third day.

The team ended their walk at the Amex Stadium, where they were joined by dozens of Albion staff members who completed a final lap around the stadium to get them across the finish line.

The walk has raised a total of £42,201 so far, including more than £20,000 in donations to the JustGiving page as well as proceeds from a silent auction, sponsorships, and ticket sales to their after-party at the Terrace.

As well as raising money for the Foundation, the team also raised almost £1,500 for The Brain Tumour Charity.

Lauren Ellis, Fundraising Manager at the Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the effort Buzz and the team put into their walk.

“Buzz, Matt, and Harry did such a fantastic job,” she said, “It was a gruelling three day walk pushing a heavy kit skip but they kept their spirits high throughout, and it was lovely how excited everyone was to see them along the way.

“We’re so grateful for their efforts, and for the incredible sum of money they’ve raised for us. £42,000 will go a really long way and help us bring football to so many young people. I think they’ve earned a nice long rest now!”
